Overview
In line with the Kingdom of Bahrain efforts to boost its global standings in major statistical indices, particularly in human capital measurements, a survey on family income and expenditure will be conducted for citizens and residents. The aim is to gauge living standards, spending habits, and how demographic, social, and economic factors impact families. The survey will take place over a full year, until 31 December 2024 through field visits. The utmost privacy and confidentiality will be maintained. Collected data will be analyzed and used to identify indicators but will not be published.

Survey objectives
•Gauging household spending’s contribution to GDP to enhance living conditions to meet citizens' needs
•Updating basket of goods used for inflation calculations
•Enhancing the government’s economic, social, and environmental programs
Procedures
Approximately 6,300 families will be randomly selected for the year-long survey, from January to December 2024 (a one-month trial survey begins on November 26, 2023).
The sample will be contacted to schedule an interview, and afterwards, all survey forms will be completed by the head of the household. These forms include:
- Housing, individuals, and income characteristics form.
- Expenses on durable goods and services form.
- Daily household expenditure record form.
Survey locations
An authorized researcher will conduct interviews and complete questionnaires through at least four visits per month to each family.
