Ms. Duaa Sultan has 19 years of experience in official statistics; she began her career in 2003 as a Central Informatics Organization (CIO) statistician, and later became Head of Demographics and Social Statistics in 2008. She was later appointed as Head of Demographics Statistics in 2013. While working there, she led field surveys as a key member of the 2010 census. She also led field surveys on the structuring and distribution of wages at businesses in 2006. In 2013, she was appointed as a key member within the Excellence Committee for implementing Bahrain’s Government Excellence Program.
Ms. Duaa contributed to several other committees and teams, including the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for Human Rights and supported the creation of the Bahraini Women Database for the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). She was also part of committees working on the National Childhood Strategy with the General Organization for Youth and Sports, the National Forum for Education for All, Disabled ID Cards and more. She represented the Kingdom at several regional and international events, most notably the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit in 2010.
Between 2014 and 2015, she worked with the Statistics Center – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) as a primary researcher in population and demographic statistics. She was appointed Vice President of its Creative Committee. During this time, she participated in numerous committees, including the Committee for Marriage and Divorce Rates with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department and the Technical Committee for Social Surveys with the Family Development Foundation.
Since March 2015, and until she took her current post in September 2021, she had been the Director of Population and Social Statistics at the GCC Statistical Center, where she supervised seven GCC teams and committees, coordinating their activities and overseeing their performance. In 2018, she was appointed Acting Director of Committees and Technical Support and headed several other internal committees. She represented the Center in the Supervising Committee of the Second GCC Statistical Forum (2019) and was a spokesperson for the Center at several GCC meetings. She also headed the team preparing the Statistical Indicators of Cultural Strategy (2020-2030) with the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
As an expert in official statistics, she delivered lectures at Sultan Qaboos University and the Muscat International Book Fair in its 22nd and 24th editions and was also a speaker at Gulf Economic Forum (GEF) 2015 and International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) 2016.
She holds a Bachelor’s in Applied Statistics (Major in Economics Support) from Kuwait University. She received a Higher Diploma in Population and Demographics from the Cairo Demographics Center and was part of the first batch of the National Program “Kawader”. She has a Professional Leadership certificate from Oxford University and is extensively trained in professional, managerial, and leadership fields.
