The joint statistical efforts among the GCC countries have showcased continuous development in line with the overall progress in GCC cooperation. It begins with the establishment of committees and statistical working groups under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat, all the way towards the launch of the GCC Statistical Center in 2013. Since then, the Center has been responsible for coordinating and enhancing cooperation among national statistical authorities, providing technical support, producing high-quality, effective and unified statistical data.

The GCC statistical system operates in line with the key guidelines and principles of United Nations official statistics which are adopted by member countries and GCC Statistical Center through the GCC Charter for Statistical Practices, developed by the Center since its launch and approved by the Permanent Committee on Statistical Work. The GCC statistical system aims to support regional integration and national development in member states by delivering high-quality statistical products and knowledge services that meet the needs of decisions makers in setting policies, planning, progress monitoring, performance management and impact assessment. The system prioritizes user needs taking into account the diversification in their interest and qualifications while anticipating future requirements to ensure continued relevance and reliability.

The 2021–2025 GCC statistical work strategic plan focused on the 2030 vision, to move forward toward strengthening the Gulf statistical system and adapting with the increasing demand for high-quality statistics, addressing the user needs, and leveraging advancements in technology and data science. The plan outlines the goals to achieve and the path it will follow to establish an intelligent, reliable statistical system that supports decision-making.

This phase emphasizes transitioning from current methods to advanced approaches for collecting, processing, analyzing, and disseminating statistical data about the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as a unified economic, social, and environmental union. The transformation is essential to ensure the system meets evolving demands including in exceptional events.
