26 Oct 2022
Technology giant Microsoft showcased the Government of Bahrain’s digital transformation experience at Microsoft Ignite 2022 in Seattle, USA. The multinational highlighted the Kingdom’s role as a global and regional pioneer in this area, serving as a model for other countries to follow. The event shed light on the Kingdom’s commitment to the deployment of advanced technologies, investment in technology for the creation of better services, and the forging of partnerships between the public and private sectors, which is helping to accelerate digital transformation and enhance economic growth, in line with the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
Representing Bahrain at the annual event were Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Director, Government Systems Support and Maintenance, Hesham Ebrahim AlHashemi and Head of Shared Services Management, Ahmed Abdulla Al Thawadi. The conference, which was attended by a host of technology experts, showcased the Kingdom’s experience in implementing cloud computing since 2017 and its service offerings via Microsoft 365 cloud computing services.
The event also highlighted the iGA’s role in the migration of government entities to the cloud using Microsoft’s cloud computing solutions, which offer advanced features in a trusted and secure environment, and helped the Kingdom to offer uninterrupted services even during the pandemic.
The iGA was also acknowledged for helping over 20,000 government employees to work remotely through the cloud computing services Microsoft 365. This allowed service continuity for citizens and residents, and is estimated to have increased employee productivity by adding more than 100,000 additional work hours that were previously spent in commuting.
The achievement is a reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to the deployment of advanced technologies, the adoption of digital initiatives and policies such as the Cloud-First Policy, the introduction of legislation aligned with the latest technological developments, improvements to government efficiency, and higher quality services through strategic partnerships with leading global companies such as Microsoft.
