During Gitex 2022, the iGA showcased key projects and achievements in the technology, eGovernment, and digital transformation spheres, including ICT projects that have reinforced the Kingdom’s position regionally and globally. These achievements were made possible with the support of the government and are in line with the objectives of its Telecommunications, ICT, and Digital Economy Sector Strategy (2022-2026).
As part of its participation in the expo, the iGA, represented by Deputy Chief Executive of Operations and Governance, Dr. Khalid Almutawah, took part in a panel discussion titled ‘The Impact of Technology on Corporate Innovation and the Public Sector’. He highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to providing the best government services to citizens, residents, and visitors through digital transformation initiatives. He also showcased Bahrain’s pioneering initiatives, being the first in the region to adopt Cloud computing, which was used to improve government processes by migrating 70% of its operations to the Cloud. He discussed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the iGA’s role in implementing digital and economic strategies, developing solutions, and building the ICT capacities of public employees. Almutawah said that the iGA is currently studying the application of several innovative technologies, including virtual reality and the Internet of Things (IoT), and that the Kingdom continuously seeks to improve the efficiency of the government services.
iGA Director of Communications and Marketing, Ms. Lulwa Sami said that the iGA is proud to be a part of the Bahrain Pavilion, highlighting the importance of this global event which brings together major players in the ICT world and presents the latest ICT advancements. Several of the iGA’s achievements were showcased, including its role in building Bahrain’s digital transformation infrastructure and supportive legislature, which greatly enhanced government processes and the quality of its services, creating an attractive environment for international investors.
She added that participation in this caliber of regional and international events strengthens the iGA’s role in the industry, and that the Bahrain Pavilion was a major draw for visitors. She thanked all the partners for their support, which helped in making the event a success for ‘Team Bahrain’.
Other projects showcased by the iGA include digital platforms that support the private sector, such as the National Portal
bahrain.bh, the Business Licensing System (
Sijilat), the Building Permits System (
Benayat), the Urban Planning Services Portal (Planning), and Golden Residency. The iGA also highlighted the Kingdom’s investment in Cloud computing in both the public and private sectors, in addition to showcasing attractive facilities available for investors in the ICT sector and investment support entities.
