iGA participates in the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission

Ms. Duaa Sultan Mohamed, Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry, and MS. Shatha Mohammed Ismaeel Acting Director of the Economic Statistics Directorate at the Information & eGovernment Authority, participated in the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, held in New York city, USA. The session witnessed a wide participation from statisticians and statistical policymakers from member states to discuss and develop strategies and methodologies for statistical work that contribute to shaping the global future.
The delegation, participated in various meetings and parallel sessions organized on the sidelines of the meeting, including meetings of the GCC States Center and a follow-up meeting related to the 13th session of Islamic Cooperation Statistical Committee.
Ms. Duaa stated that the Commission addressed several important issues related to economic, demographic, social, geographic, and environmental aspects. Key topics included data and indicators related to the Post-2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, data foresight, open data, the use of big data for official statistics, and the management and updating of statistical systems, as well as the fundamental principles of official statistics. The Commission also covered the latest developments in a wide range of statistics, focusing on methodologies and preparation techniques.
In the context of enhancing regional cooperation, Ms. Duaa, extended the Kingdom of Bahrain's congratulations to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates on their new membership in the United Nations Statistical Commission and emphasized the importance of this membership in strengthening the Arab and Gulf statistical presence on the global stage to develop the national statistical systems, which play a key role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
