iGA CE Mohammed Al Qaed Discusses Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and Data with SDAIA President

Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed met with Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) President, HE Dr. Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi on the sidelines of the third edition of the of the Global AI Summit 2024, held in Riyadh, in the attendance of Ms. Latifa Al Abbasi, Director of Innovation and Advanced Technologies at iGA, and Dr. Essam Al Wagait, Director of National Information Center at SDAIA.
The meeting explored opportunities for collaboration in AI and data between the two organizations.
Al Qaed expressed his gratitude to Dr. Alghamdi for the invitation to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain at the summit, which was organized by Saudi Arabia in partnership with UNESCO. He praised the Saudi’s continued efforts in hosting major regional and global events, especially those focused on information and communications technology.
Al Qaed also praised the summit’s success, demonstrated by the high level representations, with more than 400 speakers across 150 sessions and over 20,000 attendees. He highlighted the main themes of the summit, which focused on innovation and the driving forces of change in the fields of data and AI.
iGA CE stressed that the rich technical discussions at the summit would have a positive impact on regional efforts to harness AI, particularly collaborative initiatives between GCC countries. Al Qaed also highlighted SDAIA’s efforts in organizing the summit and advancing AI, including the development of the national large language model. He applauded SDAIA’s promising initiatives across sectors, including education, health, energy, and AI governance, which underscore Saudi Arabia’s leadership in this field.
Al Qaed and Al Ghamdi also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in exchanging expertise, knowledge, and innovation in AI and data. They reviewed Saudi Arabia’s key role in driving innovation and discussed the achievements and future prospects of employing AI to advance critical sectors in both Kingdoms, which could improve the quality of life and strengthen the national economies of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The two parties explored future collaboration in areas such as human resource development, training, and joint participation in events like hackathons and technology Olympiads. They also discussed potential cooperation in governance, policy development, research, and innovation related to data and AI initiatives.
Al Qaed expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Alghamdi and all SDAIA members, reaffirming his best wishes for continued bilateral meetings to further enhance technical cooperation, and wished the 2024 Global Artificial Intelligence Summit success in achieving its goals.
