iGA CE and the Saudi GASTAT President Discuss Joint Statistical Cooperation

Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed met with Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) President, Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Al Dossari on the sidelines of the 49th Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) Board of Trustees meeting and the 16th United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Statistical Committee session.

The meeting was attended by iGA Deputy Chief Executive of Statistics and Population Registry, Duaa Sultan, and iGA Director of the Population and Demographic Statistics Directorate, Sinan Ali.
Al Qaed wished Dr. Al Dossari a pleasant stay in Bahrain and thanked him for his commitment to representing GASTAT and participating in the meetings held in the Kingdom for the first time.

The two parties discussed several mutual interests, emphasizing the significance of Bahrain hosting the 49th AITRS Board of Trustees meeting and the 16th ESCWA Statistical Committee session. They highlighted the opportunities for countries in the region to learn about recent developments, share knowledge, and showcase statistical success stories, while underscoring Bahrain's commitment to strengthening Arab collaboration across all sectors.

They examined key areas of cooperation, including joint statistical projects and programs, progress in implementing agreements and memorandums of understanding for exchanging statistical software expertise, and initiatives to train local talent to strengthen the statistical sector in both countries.

The two parties underscored the need for comprehensive data to support ongoing development in both countries and meet current needs. They highlighted the need for Gulf and Arab cooperation to improve data transparency, bridge information gaps, and formulate reliable policies for growth and development across major sectors.

Al Qaed and Dr. Al Dossari emphasized the importance of providing statistical reports, conducting national surveys, improving administrative records and data governance, and leveraging modern technology and artificial intelligence to develop databases that support decision-makers.

The meeting reviewed updates on joint initiatives designed to achieve the goals of Bahraini-Saudi statistical systems cooperation outlined in the memorandum of understanding. It assessed progress made and directed technical teams to strengthen collaborative programs between the two countries.
