Based on invitation addressed to the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), the Chief Executive, Mohammed Ali AlQaed showcased Bahrain’s experience with Cloud technology at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit in Las Vegas. AlQaed attended the event alongside other government leaders, and senior technology and business decision-makers.
Bahrain has been selected to take part in the summit, for being one of  the first in the region to adopt the Cloud Computing Policy. During the panel discussion, focused on the experiences of successful countries in the field, which included speakers from the UK and Singapore, AlQaed explained the migration towards cloud technology, noting the many advantages the technology has provided to different business sectors.
He explained that the Kingdom offers an excellent environment for the adoption and deployment of new technologies, thanks to the advanced laws and legislative structure governing the field. He also shed light on the advance level of egovernment services at the kingdom on international level.
The public sector has enjoyed IT infrastructure operating cost reductions of between 60 and 90% since the migration began. At the same time, stakeholders have been able to better monitor performance and improve security measures, in line with the national strategic plan and the government action program.
The Could First policy adopted by the Supreme Committee for Information & Communication Technology (SCICT) chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak AlKhalifa, aims to redirect IT investment towards cloud computing in cooperation with AWS.  This should be done without neglecting security issues which may arise during the transition.
iGA was able to migrate more than 1357 IT operations to the cloud. Meanwhile, around 550 employees from governmental and semi-governmental entities completed specialized courses to obtain AWS certification.
